2011 Champions Trophy in India


India will be hosting the 2011 hockey Champions Trophy. FIH confirmed this in its executive board meeting.FIH has tasted the money power of India when World Cup was successfully conducted in March this year. FIH said,"After the success of the World Cup (in New Delhi) in March this year, the FIH has decided to return to India in December 2011".
India has earlier hosted the tournament in 1996 and 2005. Next year edition could also make a way in for two more teams through wild card. Boards of India and Pakistan have been asking for 2 wild card entries in Champions Trophy. Usually CT has been 6 team tournament where top six teams in the ranking are allowed to take part. India is a very important part for FIH in terms of revenue generation and so being a host nation India will participate in next year's tournament and it will receive wind card entry to participate in the tournament
